Cinematography, the art of photography and camerawork in filmmaking. Actors and directors most often receive the spotlight, but there are many unsung heroes behind the scenes, key players such as the cinematographer. They work diligently to craft, light, darkness, framing and atmosphere while ensuring that it supports the story and characters. By far the most popular cinematographer today is Roger Deakins. Deakins has been nominated thirteen times at the Oscars. He finally got his due diligence in 2017, winning best cinematographer for Blade Runner 2049. Here is a selection of some of his best work.
