Creative Marketing (NW) Ltd first worked with Back2Schools in the spring of 2020 well before the next big schoolwear season which kicks in, in August. It was necessary for us to quickly develop the brand so that we could take advantage of the busiest schoolwear month in the year. This is a month when hundreds of schoolwear retailers bank on big business and therefore is an extremely competitive and dense market, albeit being a niche sector.
Operating with low margins, it was necessary that the cost per quantity was less than £5.00. Schoolwear is a competitive market with the like of retail giants such as Asda, Marks & Spencers and Tesco all hoping to cash in during schoolwear seasons too. Being a new brand, we were up against the big boys.
Our strategy was to begin a PPC campaign well before the peak of August so that we could generate enough click and impression data. We also made sure that all the products were well optimised and structured a number of shopping campaigns based on category. In addition, we ensured there were upselling and cross-selling opportunities for the visitors.
We were able to successfully smash the month of August with hundreds of conversions. The client was so overwhelmed with orders that we had to increase the ROAS targets to slow down the campaign at times, but after a few teething issues, we were able to ramp up the spend and fully exploit the key schoolwear season.
