I sold my last marketing agency for over £10M and walked away convinced the entire model is a house of cards. The retainers, the fluffy reports, the Layers of account managers insulating clients from results — it’s an elaborate performance, a relic of a pre-digital, pre-intelligent era. The game is already over. Most just haven’t realised it yet.
The next six years won't bring incremental change. They will bring a reckoning. The execution layer for every marketing task you can imagine is being built right now, and it's not another piece of SaaS. It's agentic AI. This isn't about better tools; it's about autonomous systems that render the tools, and the people paid to operate them, obsolete.
This essay isn't a friendly list of trends. It's a manifesto on the future, based on what I'm building and where I'm investing my own capital. The agency owners and SaaS founders who ignore this will be extinct by 2030. Here’s what’s coming.
The traditional agency model, built on bundled services and opaque pricing, is fundamentally broken. Clients pay for headcount, not outcomes. The inefficiency is the business model. By 2030, this entire edifice will crumble.
Agentic AI will 'unbundle' the agency. Why pay a £20,000 monthly retainer for a team to manage your Google Ads when an AI agent can deliver superior results for a fraction of the cost, operating 24/7 with perfect data recall? The choice becomes ludicrously simple. Large network agencies, even giants like WPP, are not immune. Their scale, once a competitive advantage, is now a fatal liability, a tangled mess of legacy process and human capital that cannot adapt quickly enough.
2. SaaS Becomes a Feature, Not a Business
The gold rush in SaaS is over. We're drowning in single-point solutions — another social media scheduler, another email tool, another analytics dashboard. These are features, not defensible businesses. The next paradigm is the agentic operating system.
Think of it like this: your phone’s OS manages dozens of apps. In the same way, a marketing agent will manage dozens of task-specific 'features'. A tool like Hootsuite, which once commanded a significant valuation, becomes a simple API call for an agent tasked with 'distributing content'. The value moves from the tool to the agent orchestrating it. SaaS founders who don't pivot to being an integrated feature within these agentic ecosystems will have plenty of time for other pursuits.
3. 'Head of SEO' Is No Longer a Job Title
Search Engine Optimisation has long been a dark art, a mix of technical fiddling, content guesswork, and expensive link-building. Agentic AI will turn it into a science. Ninety percent of the work — technical audits, keyword research, content brief generation, competitor analysis, even link outreach — will be fully automated.
The human role will evolve from operator to strategist. The new title will be 'Head of Organic Acquisition'. This person won't be tweaking title tags; they will be a product manager for the company's online presence, setting high-level strategic goals for the AI agents to execute. It's a role demanding strategic, commercial, and technical acumen, not just knowledge of Google's latest algorithm update.
4. Hyper-Personalisation Becomes Terrifyingly Real
